Abraham Cahan was one of the founders of The Forward, an American Yiddish publication, and was its editor-in-chief for 43 years. This book it consisted of five stories. The main story “The Imported Bridegroom” is about Flora, a Jewish girl who was born and raised in New York. Cultured, courteous and elegant, she is an avid Dickens reader hoping to find a husband who is a doctor and from a good family, perhaps not an immigrant. The other four stories are: A Providential Match; A Sweat-Shop Romance; Circumstances; A Ghetto Wedding. All stories in the book describe the life of Jews in the New York ghetto of the late 19th century.

There is so much in this book that I'm not sure how to begin talking about it, and what exactly it was that I loved about it.
