The Children of the Mist: Or, The Scottish Clansmen in Peace and War. [Edinburgh-1890]

The children of the mist – is a work which was published in 1890 and collected by Lord Archibald Campbell, antiquary and author of Waifs and Strays of Celtic Tradition. A remarkable and faithful replica of a painting from the Windsor collection was painted by Mr. Ernest Griset with great precision at the Royal Military Exhibition in Chelsea with the permission of the Queen. This excellent artist worked early on the canvas day after day, with the result that it is now possible to obtain a miniature copy through a color printing process and hand it over to the public. The painting "Incident in the Scottish Rebellion" lay for a long time - probably deliberately hidden by the successors of the Duke of Cumberland in the storeroom of Windsor Castle. However, under the direction of Sir Charles Robinson, she was sent to the Military Exhibition along with all the other military paintings by D. Morier. The Highlanders are indebted to those who discovered this curious painting in the pantry of Windsor Castle. Nor would it mean paying tribute to a gallant officer. Colonel G. C. W. Malet, creator of the Royal Military Exhibition in Chelsea, does not claim to have provided every possible copy of the work. Morier writing Incident in the Scottish Rebellion for H.R.H. Duke of Cumberland.
