Maha-Bharata, the Epic of Ancient India Condensed into English Verse

Mahabharata is an ancient Indian epic, one of the largest literary works in the world. This is an illustrative edition which was published in 1899. Translation of “Mahabharata” in this edition was made by Romesh Chander Dutt and the main themes of the Mahabharata are condensed in English verse. Romesh Chander Dutt was a Bengali politician, publicist, historian, translator and writer. "Mahabharata" is a complex but organic complex of epic narratives, short stories, fables, parables, legends, lyre-didactic dialogues, didactic discourses of a theological, political, legal nature, cosmogonic myths, genealogies, hymns, laments, united according to typical large forms Indian literature on the principle of framing, consists of eighteen books and contains more than 75,000 couplets, which is several times longer than the Iliad and Odyssey combined. "Mahabharata" is the source of many images and plots that have developed in the literature of the peoples of South and Southeast Asia. In Indian tradition, the Mahabharata is considered the fifth Veda. This is one of the few works of world literature that claims about itself that it has everything in the world.
