Rev. James Hinton Knowles was a British missionary in Kashmir in the 19th century.
In Kashmir in the 80s of the 19th century, he wrote two important books about the language and culture of Kashmir and this book is one of them.
This "dictionary" is a comprehensive collection of Kashmiri proverbs and sayings that was published in 1885.
The author believes that this book contains almost all the proverbs and sayings that existed among the Kashmiris at that time.
They have been collected from various sources.
