Book description

Up Stream: An American Chronicle - is a book, which was published in 1922 and written by Ludwig Lewisohn, a novelist, literary critic, the drama critic for The Nation and then its associate editor. He was also the editor of the New Palestine, an American Zionist journal. "Up Stream" is the first important book by Ludwig Lewisohn. This book is a veiled autobiography in which he struggled with issues of puritanism, xenophobia and the American dream. Although the term was not then in vogue, his book was a call for pluralism. This landmark work established Lewisohn as an advocate for intellectuals and immigrants.
