The story of the guard: A chronicle of the war – is a book written by Jessie Ann Benton Frémont and published in 1863. Benton Frémont was an American political activist, and the wife of a military officer, explorer, and politician, John C. Frémont. This book is her personal look at the events of the American Civil War. Jesse Benton-Fremont writes as if people knew the circumstances surrounding what she was writing about. This book was her first published story (aside from her husband's reports, which she helped write), and was written to help the families of soldiers, who died in the Civil War.
