The Prophet Jonah: His Character and Mission to Nineveh

The prophet Jonah: his character and mission to Nineveh – is a work which was published in 1889 and written by Hugh Martin, 19th century theological author and a Scottish minister of the Free Church of Scotland. Jonah is the oldest of the Jewish prophets, whose scriptures have survived to our time. And Jonah was the only one Old Testament prophet who "tried to escape from God." According to the Christian point of view, the Book of the prophet Jonah, which is part of the Old Testament, contains prophecies about the fate of the Israelite people, the suffering of the Savior, and the desolation of Jerusalem. According to the New Testament, Jesus Christ, in a conversation with the scribes and Pharisees, who demanded a sign from him, said that they would not be given a sign other than the sign of Jonah the prophet (Matthew 12:39, 40), that is, three days' death and the subsequent Resurrection of the Lord. The book is conventionally divided into several parts: An introduction to the Mission of Jonah; its place in historical development, as well as the relationship between Jew and Gentile; First part: The Commission Issued— And Refused; Second part: The Commission Re-Issued— And Fulfilled; and Conclusion.
