This book is part of The Course of Positive Philosophy (Cours de Philosophie Positive). It is a series of texts written by Auguste Comte between 1830 and 1842. In his work, he revealed the epistemological perspective of positivism. Auguste Comte was a French philosopher, founder of positivism and founder of sociology as an independent science. This book is one of three volumes devoted mainly to the already existing physical sciences, in particular mathematics. This work was translated from the French by William Mitchell Gillespie, Professor of Civil Engineering and Assistant Professor of Mathematics in Union College. This edition was published in 1851.
