Book description

About the Book

The Economics Of Industry - is the work of two spouses Alfred Marshall and Mary Paley Marshall. Alfred Marshall was an English economist, one of the founders of the neoclassical direction in economics, the head of its "Cambridge school". Mary Paley Marshall was an economist and one of the first women who pass the Tripos exam in 1874, receiving top marks, but was unable to obtain a degree due to her gender. She was one of five women who were the first to study at Newnham College as part of the University of Cambridge. This book was written at the request of a meeting of Cambridge University professors to meet the need they felt. This is an attempt to build on the principles outlined in Mill's Political Economy, a theory of wages, value and profit, which should include the main results of the work of the current generation of economists at that time. The main provisions of this theory were tested over the years at lectures in Cambridge, and later in Bristol. Research on topics such as foreign trade, taxation and banking has been postponed until the next volume on the economics of trade and finance. This is the second edition of this book and published in 1888. This edition contains an outline of the theory of Value, Wages and Profits.
