Book description

The church: its polity and ordinances – is a work written by Hezekiah Harvey, Baptist theologian of 19th century. This volume contains the content of the lectures given over the years to the classes at Hamilton Theological Seminary. The writer's task was to present to his students the best research results that recent research and thought has achieved on these subjects. For this, in addition to original research, he collected materials from all available sources. In the field of philology and especially archeology, the progress concerning the subjects considered here has recently been noticeable and important and in itself justifies their repeated discussion. Many of the works used will be indicated either in the text or in footnotes. In discussing controversial topics, the author intended to frankly and respectfully present the views of Christian brothers who may differ from him and even if he fails, this will be a matter of sincere regret for him. Believing that this work can help clarify the word of God, especially in his teachings concerning the outer institutions of Christianity, now it sets out on its mission.
