Savonarola: A City's Tragedy – is a tragedy written by Newman Howard, an English dramatist and poet. This is the second tragedy to be included in the "the Christian Trilogy" series. "The Christian Trilogy" is a series of critically praised tragedies written in blank verse. The play was published in 1904 and consists of five acts. The first act is - Ferrara: Duke Ercole's Court. Revels. The second act - Pisa, during the French occupation: Palazzo Strozzi . The third act - Florence: The Duomo. The fourth act - Florence: The Piazza. (The Trial by Fire, and after.) The fifth act - Florence: The Hall of the Greater Council; The Piazza. The author has in parts of this play permitted himself a fuller development, both of theme and character, than the staged drama would require.
