Medical psychology and psychical research

Medical Psychology And Psychical Research - is a work, which was published in 1922 and written by T. W. Mitchell. Thomas Walker Mitchell was a British physician and psychic researcher. He studied at the University of Edinburgh and received his M.D. in 1906. Mitchell wrote about medical psychology and psychopathology. He was a member of the British Psychoanalytic Society and the Psychomedical Society, as well as a member of the Society for Psychical Research and was elected its president for 1922. He also edited the British Journal of Medical Psychology. Mitchell studied cases of hypnosis and somnambulism. This book is devoted to those branches of medical psychology that have shed the most light on the problems of psychic research, namely, hypnosis, hysteria, and multiple personality. Much of the content has already been published in the form of articles contributed to the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research over the past 15 years. The Appreciation of Time by Somnambules (Chapter 1) appeared in 1907; Study in Hysteria (Chapter 2) in 1912; The Doris Fisher Case of Multiple Personality (Chapter 5) in 1920: these documents are reprinted here almost unchanged. The essence of chapters 3, 4 and 6 was embodied in an article entitled "Some Types of Multiple Personalities" published in Proceedings. , SPR in 1912, but significant additions to the original paper have been made in this book. Much of Chapter 4 (which describes what author had called the Jekyll-Hyde double personality type), as well as part of Chapter 6, is published for the first time in this book.
