Book description

Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand and the main population of the country before the arrival of the Europeans. The origin of New Zealanders is explained in different ways by itself. There is one tradition according to which they came from a place called Hawaiki, having traveled in about ten main canoes, but structures different from those we see now and which were formerly called Amatatia, similar to those used on many islands in the South Seas, with support to prevent them from tipping over. The real canoe is called the Waka, a model of which is said to have been taken from the dry seed pods of Revarevra (New Zealand honeysuckle). Those who might want to see how carefully they were modeled by comparing the two will notice that even the curly head and protruding part above the stem have been copied. But our main goal is to pay attention to religious faith (if it can be called religious faith) and its basis, which is formulated in the title of our lecture, namely - "Maori superstitions and traditions" as superstition and tradition will be seen as the foundation of all their faith. If, due to lack of time, we are unable to show a partially clear connection with the Christian faith, the minds of this audience will readily offer their respective contrasts and analogies.
