Book description

In the annals of art production, color printing, created by the masters of the ukiyo-e school, occupies a unique place. Ukiyo-e prints are the main type of xylography in Japan. This art form gained its fame in the second half of the 17th century in the urban culture of Edo (modern Tokyo). The founder of ukiyo-e is considered to be the Japanese painter and graphic artist Hishikawa Moronobu. This book presents a catalog of works by famous masters of ukiyo-e, as well as the history of the emergence of this genre of art. The catalog contains works by authors such as Harunobu, Moronobu, Kiyomasu, Masanobu, Toyonobu, Kiyobotsu, Harunobu, Koryusai, Shunsho, Buncho, Kiyonaga, Shuncho, Eishi, Sharaku, Utamaro, Toyokuni, Hokusai and Hiroshige.
