Easy Lessons in Popular Science: And Hand-Book to Pictorial Chart

This textbook contains primary sciences for elementary grades. The method of this textbook is by illustration, comparison, and familiar conversations. The objects are illustrated on a large pictorial table for the classroom wall; and on the board according to the drawing directions. The topics of the textbook are short and varied, suggested on a tour of the country by the teacher and her class; such as Air, Water, Stones, Earth, what they contain and what is their use; with interesting lessons on rain, rivers, plants, trees, agriculture, mining, manufacturing, fish, birds, animals, insects, geography, etc. The exercises, also short and varied, include: reading; drawing on the board and slates; oral exercises with questions and answers, written reviews combining spelling and essay. Exercises on a graphic map and a wall map of the world. Despite the fact that the book is adapted to the graphic scheme, the book is complete and can be used on its own as a textbook for primary classes or for oral teaching by a teacher. It contains many woodcuts and color maps. The purpose of the textbook is not only to instruct, but also to teach, develop and strengthen the ability to reason, and to encourage the habits of observation, thinking, analysis and comparison.
