Chinese fables and folk stories – is a book, which was published in 1908 and written by Mary Hayes Davis and Chow-Leung. It takes a lot of study of Eastern thinking to catch even a brief hint of the secret of its mysterious charm. An open mind and the wisdom of great compassion are the necessary conditions for this to be possible. Contemplative, gentle and metaphysical in their way of thinking, the Chinese thought deeply and solved many of the mysteries of the universe in their own way. This is the first book of Chinese fairy tales ever printed in English, which will introduce Western people to some of the Chinese fables that had never been known to the world until the time of publication. Why Chinese fables were never found in any of the European languages before the publication of this book? Firstly, Chinese fables were written here and there in advanced literature, in historical books and in poetry, which are not read by all writers, except for widely and deeply educated experts. Secondly, all Chinese books, except those provided by the missionaries for religious purposes, are written in Chinese hook language, which is not at all like the spoken language. This book of fables is not meant to give a complete picture of Chinese literature, but it does give the thinking reader a bird's eye view of Chinese thought in this form of literature.
