Adam Smith and Modern Sociology: A Study in the Methodology of the Social Sciences

No one has shown more zeal in highlighting the close ties that exist between the social sciences than Professor Small. This essay highlights the interdependence of economics and sociology through the example of Adam Smith. According to the author, this essay is a fragment of a more complete study that he is conducting on the relationship between the social sciences of the 19th century and sociology. The author's goal is “to make economists and sociologists understand each other a little better,” and perhaps there is no better way to achieve this result than by tracing the history of these sciences. This book was published in 1907 and consist of eight chapters such as: Introduction; The Sources ; The Economics and Sociology of Labor; The Economics and Sociology of Capital ; Economic vs. Sociological Interpretation of History; The Problems of Economic and of Sociological Science; The Relation of Economic Technology to Other Social Technologies, and to Sociology; Conclusion.
