Book description

The Divine Comedy is a poem written by Dante Alighieri and giving the broadest synthesis of medieval culture and the ontology of the world. The Divine Comedy is a real medieval encyclopedia of scientific, political, philosophical, moral, theological knowledge. This long Italian narrative poem by Dante Alighieri is recognized as the greatest monument of Italian and world culture. The poem is divided into three parts. "Inferno" is the first of three parts, consists of 34 songs as a symbol of disharmony, instead of 33 songs as in the other two parts. All of it is written in three-line stanzas with a special rhyme scheme. This book is one of the English translations by David Johnston and published in 1867.
