Book description

A Spiritual Aeneid – is a book, which was published in 1918 and written by Ronald Arbuthnott Knox. Ronald Arbuthnott Knox was an English religious figure and writer of detective stories. In 1917, Knox converted to Catholicism and retired from his post as Anglican chaplain. This book is a religious autobiography. Its essence is not original, and the conclusion from it is also not original. But as long as opinions differ, there must always be some difference in the most overused pilgrimages, when pilgrims compare confession notes. Here Knox explains his spiritual journey. He tried to avoid all references that could harm anyone but himself. In explaining the Aeneid motif that runs through the headings of chapters and parts of the book, Knox provides a clue to a somewhat obvious set of characters. Troy is an unflappable and somewhat unreflective religion; in most lifetimes it is abandoned to be rebuilt or replaced. The Greeks are the doubts that overthrow him. Helen's "Miniature Troy" is an attempt to reconstruct this religion exactly as it was. Carthage is any decoy that seems final for a while, and Rome is Rome.
