Book description

The huge volume of cases recently introduced into the Chambers of Common Law Judges as a result of the Acts of 1862, 1854 and many other contemporary statutes have made the practice books, exclusively within the jurisdiction of the Chamber of Judges, of little use, if any, for the people for whom they are were originally intended. The following pages are intended to give those who do not own large and costly work on the general practice of courts, etc., simple and straightforward instructions regarding the documents on which the Chamber's more important statements are based, and the followed method for obtaining the necessary order or direction from the judge. It is believed that for the supervisors and their employees, many of whom are in the habit of almost constantly visiting the offices, this work will be of considerable value; and this view is reinforced by the recollection of the countless inquiries that are made daily on the issues of practice dealt with in it, both by the author and by his brother clerks. Consideration of all appeals to a judge in the chambers did not fall within the scope of such a small volume, but it is believed that few of the most important have been overlooked, and none of those that are not provided for in recent legislation. One issue completely omitted relates to petitions for amendments to litigation - this issue was not considered due to the almost unlimited powers that the judges now have all the necessary amendments, either on application during the trial, or by summons and order.
