Book description

This grammar is an honest attempt to convey to the Englishmen of the Cape, who may not be familiar with Dutch, a comprehensive grammar of the language that has not yet appeared in their own language. The author believes that students who may be comfortable using Dutch grammar written in English will take this as a help. The author believes that there are no difficulties left, and that this grammar contains almost everything that will make their study of Dutch interesting and fruitful. The title page indicates that this work is based on the work of Van Dale and De Groot. In the author's opinion, nothing important put forward by these two grammars was overlooked by him. But by making them his main authorities, the author in no way ruled out what seemed worthy of insertion from other sources. This book is also full of quotes from Dutch literature.
