Robert Mackintosh (1858-1933) English cleric; Professor at Lancashire Independent College, Manchester
He wrote articles for the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica. The Rev. Robert Mackintosh, D.D., who died at Kinrara, Whaley Bridge, on Sunday at the age of 74, exercised a great influence on a generation of students for the Congregational ministry. He was professor at the Lancashire Independent College, Whalley Range, Manchester, from 1894 till 1930. Dr. Mackintosh was educated at Glasgow University, where he took his M.A. degree. He then went to the new College, Edinburgh, for his Divinity course, and graduated B.D. at Edinburgh. Glasgow gave hi the degree of D.D. in recognition of his scholarly influence over his students. Before going to Manchester he was minister at Dumfries for four years. Dr. mackintosh took a deep interest in public affairs. For many years he was a member of the local Bible Society Committee. A memorial service will be held to-day in the College Chapel, Whalley Range.
