Isaac Markens


Isaac Markens (1846 to 1928) was a Jewish American writer born in NYC. The son of Elias Markens, a linguist and Orientalist, Isaac Markens received his education in public schools. He started as a merchant, and became private secretary to the Railway Commissioner, Albert Fink. Later he became a journalist, writing for the New York Commercial Advertiser and the Mail and Express. He published The Hebrews in America, in 1888, which was a series of historical and biographical sketches that were the firts to examine American Jewish history. For several years he was secretary to the board of arbitration of the Eastern and Western Railways. .
