Charles V (Spanish: Carlos I (V), Latin: Carolus V; 24 February 1500 - 21 September 1558) was emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (1519-1556). King of Spain (1516-1556), Germany, Italy, and Naples. Archduke of Austria, Duke of Styria, Carinthia, and Krajina (1519-1521). Representative of the Habsburg House. Born in Ghent, Flanders. Son of Duke Philip I of Burgundy and Queen Juana I of Castile. He was crowned emperor on February 24, 1530 in Bologna by Pope Clement VII. The most prominent statesman of Europe in the first half of the XVI century, who made the greatest contribution to history among the rulers of that time. Charles V was the last man to be officially crowned pope by the emperor, and he was the last man to celebrate his triumph in Rome.
