Frederick Temple


Frederick Temple (30 November 1821 to 23 December 1902) was an academic, teacher, churchman, and the Archbishop of Canterbury between 1896 and 1902. He was born in Santa Maura, one of the Ionian Islands. His father, Major Octavius Temple was subsequently appointed lieutenant-governor of Sierra Leone but at retirement settled in Devon, where he trained his son for farming life. His grandfather was William Johnson Temple, Rector of Mamhead in Devon.
