Caroline Frances Cornwallis


Caroline Frances Cornwallis (1786 to 1858) was an English feminist author whose father, William Cornwallis, belonged to a lesser branch of the well known military and naval family. Her father was a Kent rector who had been an Oxford fellow, throughout her childhood Caroline read widewly on both religious and secular issues. Cornwallis travelled widely, including to Italy and to Malta and learned Greek, Latin and Hebrew, as well as Italian, German and French. She also delved into the Scandinavian languages.
